LEADING WITH SMILES
REFLECTION
The opportunity to internship at a dental office is an experience I wouldn’t trade for the world. I remember being so nervous the first day. I was worried about if I would be able to learn everything I needed to and worried that I might not exceed at my duties. Luckily, I had the most amazing people to work and teach me. Everyone was so patient and kind. Some of my favorite parts of the job were actually polishing, taking x-rays, and assisting with extractions.
Polishing and flossing the patient's teeth was fun for me. It wasn’t as weird to work inside someone's mouth that I thought it might. It was good to have that be a positive experience because without that I wouldn’t want to continue in this career field.
X-rays were something I enjoyed because it was something that I could visibly see how well I was doing. If the films didn’t turn out it was a good learning tool to then be able to see what I was doing wrong and fix it.
The other part that I loved was assisting with extractions. Wisdom teeth were my favorite extractions to assist with. I thought it was so fascinating. This also helped me know that I am going into the right field.
Overall, I had such an amazing experience. Everyone in the office was so kind and helpful. I learned so much from everyone. The last day of my internship was rough because I didn’t want to leave. I am so grateful for the opportunity I had to have this experience.
